A New View in the Future of Public Policy

Jacob Mitchell is a 28-year-old lifelong resident of San Diego's District 2, running for City Council in the 2026 election to make the city more affordable, accountable, and livable for working families and young people.

Core Policy Focus: San Diego should be a home, not an investment strategy. My platform emphasizes practical, results-driven solutions using the Council's powers over local ordinances, budgets, oversight, land use, and advocacy.

  • Housing: Crack down on short-term rental abuse to preserve long-term stock; enforce ADU standards to prevent overcrowding and investor exploitation while supporting family-sized units; cut red tape for responsible infill and repairs, protecting neighborhoods in Point Loma, Mission Beach, Ocean Beach, Clairemont, and Midway.

  • Homelessness: Compassion with accountability. Audit programs to cut waste and double down on what works; expand safe parking and transitional support for those seeking stability; humane enforcement of public safety laws to keep neighborhoods clean and safe.

  • Livability: Fix infrastructure (roads, sidewalks, traffic calming); reform parking fees and enforcement for fairness; strengthen quality of life rules (noise, cleanliness), addressing everyday frustrations in our coastal and suburban communities.

  • Energy & Cost of Living: Aggressive oversight of SDG&E (audits, franchise terms); incentives for home solar and resilience pilots; push for ratepayer protections amid rising utility costs.

  • Public Safety: Pro-safety with accountability and freedoms protected. Ban facial recognition; audit surveillance tools like ALPRs; clear, coordinated enforcement paired with services for trust and effectiveness.

  • Good Government: Mandate regular audits; tie budgets to measurable outcomes; cut waste; demand transparency and honest data, restoring trust by treating public money like it matters.

I'm not a career politician. With a B.S. in Chemistry from PLNU, an ongoing MBA, experience in scientific labs (Abbott), research/business development , construction, and running a small Etsy shop, plus volunteering and donating bone marrow to a stranger, I'm the average worker who's analytical and committed to fixing systems with common sense. I want to give hope to the next generation.
